__wf_reserved_inherit — A bar chart displays data as horizontal bars, making it ideal for comparing values across categories or ranking items. Use bar charts to show top/bottom performers, compare metrics across regions or channels, or display categorical data comparisons.

At a glance

Bar charts use a category x-axis (campaign, channel, country - not a timeline), so they're built for ranking and comparison, not trends.
If you name a period without meaning to set a time series, do not set Granularity on the Data tab - a category dimension plus a granularity together silently turns the chart into a daily trend instead of ranked bars.
Supports Stacking (None/Normal/Percent), rounded Border Radius, and a data labels toggle to print exact values on each bar.
For a vertical version, or when your x-axis is naturally a date, use Column Chart instead.

Overview

Use a bar chart to rank items against each other - top campaigns by spend, channels by conversion rate, regions by revenue. The horizontal layout reads well when category labels are long (campaign or ad names), which is the main practical reason to pick Bar over Column.

Configuring a Bar Chart

Open or create a report card and select Bar Chart as the card type (Creating a Card).
Go to the Data tab to select your metrics and dimensions.
Go to the Chart tab to customize appearance.
Go to the Card tab to edit the card styling.
Go to the Palette tab to customize colors (Palettes).
Go to the Custom tab for advanced JSON overrides (optional).
Click Save when finished.

AI Edit

Open AI Edit and describe the ranking you want, e.g. "bar chart of top 10 campaigns by spend." See AI Edit a Card.

Data Tab

Select your time period, choose a category dimension and metrics, and set sorting and comparison options. Fields come from the Data Model.

Important: a bar chart needs exactly one categorical dimension. If you also give it a named date range (for example "last 30 days"), set that as the date range only - do not also set a Granularity (Day/Week/Month/...), since that turns each category into a time series and defeats the ranking view. Combine Sort (descending by your metric) with a row limit for classic "Top N" leaderboards.

Chart Tab

Customize how bars, labels, and the legend look. Bar charts don't expose axis title/position fields on this tab - the category axis is driven entirely by your dimension.

Configure how your chart is displayed and styled within your report. Customize the card's appearance with title, description, icon, and styling options for both light and dark modes. Reset to your report's default theme at any time.

Choose to use your report's default theme palette or create a custom palette. Configure colors separately for light and dark modes. Full details: Palettes.

Tips for bar charts

Sort descending + limit rows for "Top N" leaderboards - pair Sort on the Data tab with a row cap.
Turn on data labels when the exact number matters as much as the ranking - useful for client-facing summaries.
Use Percent stacking to show composition within each category (e.g. device split within each campaign's clicks).
Switch to Column if your categories are actually dates - Bar's category axis won't auto-order or space them like a timeline.

Troubleshooting

Problem	Likely cause	What to try
