Connect a data source

Connections vs data sources

Two words, two different things — and mixing them up causes most connection questions.

Connection — a login (your Google, Facebook or Microsoft account). Added once, reused across every client.

Data source — one account, property or location attached to one client. A Google Ads account is one. A GA4 property is one. A Google Business Profile location is one.

So one login can supply many data sources. Connect the login first, then attach the accounts you want.

Before you start

There are no permission roles in Jepto — any user in your account can add, edit or delete connections and data sources. Worth knowing before you invite people, since nothing stops a teammate disconnecting a source that live jobs depend on.

What you do need is access on the platform itself. Jepto only sees what the login you connect can see, so if that login can't open the account on the platform, it won't appear in Jepto's dropdowns.

Step 1 — Add the connection

Go to Data Sources → Connections.
Click Add Connection.
Choose the platform you want to log in to.
Complete the platform's login and consent screen.

Tick every permission box. This is the single most common cause of a connection that looks fine but returns no data. Google in particular shows a list of checkboxes on the consent screen and leaves them unticked by default — if you skip one, the connection succeeds but the service behind that checkbox stays empty. Grant everything for the services you plan to use, even the ones you don't need today.

You only do this once per login. If you manage twelve clients through one Google account, that's one connection, not twelve.

Step 2 — Add the data source

Go to Data Sources → Data Sources.
If you're on All Clients, select the client you want to add the data source to.
Click the + icon next to the platform you want.
Pick the connection to use.
Choose the specific account, property or location.

Repeat for each account you want that client to have. For Google Business Profile, select every location you want to monitor — each one is its own data source.

How data sources are counted

Your plan limits data sources, not connections. Each plan includes a set number — see the pricing page — and you can add more from the subscription page in the app.

Two things to watch: every Google Business Profile location counts as its own data source, and a data source with a connection error still counts until you remove it.

What each platform gives you

Google Ads	Every Google service on that login, including MCC accounts	Clicks, impressions, cost, conversions and value, CPC, CPM, CTR, ROAS. Broken down by campaign, ad group, ad, keyword, search term, match type, device, network, bidding strategy, Performance Max and Shopping product fields, landing page and geo.
Google Analytics 4	Every Google service on that login	Users, sessions, engagement, page views, events, conversions, revenue and ecommerce metrics, plus Google Ads cost data held inside GA4. Broken down by page, landing page, event, device, browser, geo, source, medium, campaign and channel group.
Google Search Console	Every Google service on that login	Clicks, impressions, CTR and average position, broken down by query, page, country, device and search appearance.
Google Business Profile	Every Google service on that login — but each location is its own data source	Impressions and clicks split by search vs maps and desktop vs mobile, calls, direction requests, website clicks, bookings, messages, ratings and review counts. Also the profile itself: categories, hours, services, reviews, questions, posts, media and search keywords.
Facebook Ads	Facebook Ads and Instagram Ads	Spend, impressions, reach, frequency, link and unique clicks, CTR variants, CPC, CPM, actions, action values and cost per action. Broken down by age, gender, geo, publisher platform, platform position, device and hour of day.
Instagram Ads	Uses the same Facebook login — no separate connection needed	The same metrics and dimensions as Facebook Ads.
Microsoft Ads	Microsoft Ads accounts on that login	Standard cost and conversion metrics plus quality signals (quality score, ad relevance, landing page experience, expected CTR), impression share and share lost to budget or rank, view-through conversions and call metrics. Campaign, ad group, ad, keyword, search term, device, network and URL dimensions.
LinkedIn Ads	LinkedIn Ads accounts on that login	The widest set of any paid platform: cost and conversion metrics plus lead gen form opens and submissions, qualified leads, video view quartiles and watch time, engagement and social actions, viral metrics and member reach. Uniquely, professional dimensions — industry, job function, job title, seniority and company size.
TikTok Ads	TikTok Ads accounts on that login	Spend, impressions, clicks, reach, frequency, video plays and view quartiles, engaged views and social actions, plus web and app events — purchases, checkouts, registrations, add-to-cart, form submissions and installs — with cost and value per event.
X (formerly Twitter) Ads	X Ads accounts on that login	Limited by the platform's own API to impressions, link clicks and spend, by date, campaign and segment.
Google BigQuery	A Google Cloud Platform connection with BigQuery access	Columns from a table or view you register — you map types and aggregations, then query live in reports, Data Chat and the Data Model. Warehouse pipelines that write into BigQuery are a separate flow. See Connect to Google BigQuery.
Unified	Every connected platform above	Comparable metrics aggregated across platforms — spend, impressions, clicks, reach, conversions, conversion value, ROAS and the standard rates — with source as a dimension. This is what makes cross-channel cards and KPIs possible.

Platforms that work differently

Google BigQuery — two uses: pull your own table into the Data Model, or push pipeline data into BigQuery as a Data Warehouse destination. Needs a Google Cloud project and BigQuery permissions.
Google Sheets — a file you pick from Drive, laid out the way Jepto expects.
Slack, Zapier, Make and webhooks send data out of Jepto. See Integrations.

If something goes wrong

The account isn't in the dropdown. The login you connected doesn't have access to it. Check on the platform itself, then add the right login as another connection.

It connected but no data arrives. Usually a permission box left unticked — remove the connection and re-add it with everything ticked.

FAQ

Can one login serve multiple clients?
‍Yes. A connection is account-level, and the same one can create data sources under as many clients as you like — including two clients using the same platform account.

Why does Google Business Profile use so many data sources?
‍Each location is monitored, reported on and posted to independently, so each counts as one.

Can I move a data source to another client?
‍There's no move. Recreate it under the other client using the same connection, then remove the old one.
