Pick Google's official server for a free, GA4-only tool you run yourself. Pick a hosted server for Claude or ChatGPT with no setup, and GA4 alongside ads and search data.
Use Google's official Google Analytics MCP server if you're a developer who wants a free, open-source tool for GA4 alone and is comfortable with Python and Google Cloud. Use a hosted server like Jepto if you want to connect from Claude or ChatGPT in minutes, without setup, and query GA4 together with ads and search data across many clients.

Which should you use?
The official server is the better choice for a developer working on their own GA4 properties. A hosted server is the better choice when the people asking aren't developers, or when the question needs more than GA4.
Which should you use?
It comes down to who's asking and what they ask about
Both are good tools. They suit different people.
Google's official server- You only need GA4, for your own properties
- You already use Gemini CLI or Claude Code
- You have a Google Cloud project
- You want to create annotations, custom dimensions or key events from chat
- You want to run or host it yourself, free
A hosted server like Jepto- You want the Claude or ChatGPT apps, not a terminal
- Your team won't install Python or set up gcloud
- You manage many clients and want each question scoped to one
- You need GA4 next to ad spend and Search Console in one answer
How setup compares
You run the official server yourself, so you set up Python, Google Cloud and credentials first. Follow its README for exact commands. With Jepto you connect GA4 once and add Jepto in your AI app. Step-by-step: How to connect GA4 to Claude.

Not out of the box. Its README documents Gemini CLI, Gemini Code Assist and Claude Code. To use it in a chat app you'd have to host it yourself as an HTTP server with Google OAuth.
Is the official server free?
Yes. It's open source under Apache-2.0. You'll still need a Google Cloud project.
What does a hosted GA4 MCP server add?
No install or Cloud setup, sign-in through OAuth, and other sources such as Google Ads and Search Console in the same chat.
